Edison Freeman and the color of fire

Way back in 1966, 2 kids formed a band.  Going their separate ways for 4 decades, they have picked up right where they left off,

a bit older and a whole lot more proficient at what they do.

Meet Edison Freeman, multi-instrumental singer/songwriter, and Randy Rice, bassist and stage general. Along with drummer Dan Jones and lead guitarist Lucky Gaines, they are The color of fire….

Edison Freeman                    Randy Rice                  Dan Jones                       Lucky Gaines

- Vocals, keys (mostly grand piano and Hammond B-3), electric and slide guitars and harmonicas

Born to native Texans, but raised in Los Angeles, Edison began to play at age 5, on the lap steel guitar, and by the age of 16 had added all types of guitars to his repertoire, as well as bass, drums, piano, trumpet, and harmonica. Edison had a billboard top 100 hit in 1970 with a band called "Kingdom", possibly the first true progressive rock band in the USA. "Kingdom" was produced by Barry Hansen, the man who became famous as "Doctor Demento".

Always in love with the blues, a turning point came for him when he was invited to be the bassist

for Stan West, an extraordinary bluesman and slide guitarist from the Los Angeles area.  For the

next 3 years he was immersed in the blues, sharing the stage with many major artists until returning

to the spotlight as a frontman .  After woodshedding for the last 8 years in Texas, building a hi-

tech recording studio and writing many fine new songs, his dream band has become a reality.

- Bass and vocals.

When Ed met Randy at the age of 13, they formed their first serious band.  Randy and Ed went their separate ways then after both graduated from Nueva Vista continuation High School in La Puente, California.

Randy went on to great success as the bassist for Eric Burdon from 1972-75, appearing on 3 albums, and then a ten year long relationship with Leigh Stephens, the original Blue Cheer guitarist, culminating with the critically-acclaimed band Enterprise.

Randy also recorded with the Rubber City Rebels, co- produced by Doug Fieger of the Knack, and is featured on the soundtrack of the cult classic film "Echo Park" as a member of Jimmie Wood and the Immortals, and is credited as co-writer of one of the film’s songs. The musical advisor for this film was Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones..

Welcome back Randy!

-         Drums, percussion, and social commentary

A skilled pilot, Dan steers the color of fire through the stormy weather of the many different rhythms they pursue in their

genre-less world.  With his love for funk bands like tower of power, he has brought the band to a new level.

Known and loved by all the musicians in the Houston music scene, we are really happy to have a seasoned cat like Dan in the

driver’s seat!

- Vocals, electric and slide guitars

Born in Atlanta, Ga., his Dad was career military ,and his parents bought his first

guitar when he was in the third grade in San Antonio, Tx. After moving around the country, (and globe)

for 26 odd years he came back to Tx. to put down roots and raise a family...After many years of

woodsheding & child rearing, Lucky broke out, working with Roadwork, The Casey James Band , Wishful Thinking,

and was an original member of The Lugnuts. This past year saw Lucky as part of the JB Bullion Band.

He mostly plays a sunburst Strat, (slightly tweaked) thru a Fender Hot Rod Deville with 4-10's.

The only effects he uses are a Coricidan bottle or metal slide.
